A Few Lessons on Gear

Last night, ran Naxx10 as a guild for the first time in a long time. Things got really slow over the last few months while we were moving to a new house, and we're finally settled enough to commit to a weekly raid night.

We had enough guys in the group that had run the instance with PUGs to know our way around, but I hadn't seen any of the bosses we cleared before the run, so I feel pretty good about how we did. We cleared the Arachnid quarter, and then got Patchwerk down in the Construct quarter before calling it a night. We didn't exactly blaze through the content, but we also didn't get discouraged by the few wipes we had, and nothing really "blocked" us at this point. As our gear improves on our core raiders and as we get the fight mechanics down a little better, I think it will grow easier and easier to farm the place and gear up for the next level.

One thing I did learn is I need to have a little less fun with my gear if I'm going to use my warrior as a main tank. I wouldn't say I was really "undergeared," but there are some things I can do to improve my effective health, which I think is important at this stage of our progression. I need to replace the rocket boot enchant with a stamina enchant. I need to take the rocket launchers off my gloves and put on the 800 armor tinker (which is awesome for tanks). I might even need to pass up the parachute cape (even though it has a passive agility buff) for something more substantial.

I also need to shun unnecessary socket bonuses for more stamina. As long as I'm crit immune, (540 defense), everything else should be armor and stamina at this point for me. That will make life a lot easier on the rest of my raid.

That's not to say I can't keep an off-set of gear with the "fun" enchants, but right now, if we're gonna raid semi-seriously, I need to treat my gear appropriately.

Just seeing if this works...

Introduction

I started playing World of Warcraft sometime after TBC launched. I started out with a warrior, mainly because I was unsure of how the game mechanics would work for me, and it seemed like the simplest way to go. I rolled human, because I didn't really look at the racial bonuses and I didn't want a goofy looking avatar.

Right about level 35, my wife (who started playing a night elf hunter shortly after I got the game) bought me The Green Tower at the auction house. It was the first epic item I ever had, and I decided at that point to re-spec for protection in order to get the most use out of it.

I've been tanking ever since.

I'm in a small guild called Forgiven on the Terokkar realm. My warrior's name is Kaptainkaos. I've also got a paladin and a death knight tank, and I've come to the conclusion that I really don't enjoy playing any class that doesn't wear plate.
